As the weather turns cool today it brings to mind the Danish term hygge. It means a feeling of contentment brought about by simple comforts. I find during these times of uncertainty it’s the small daily rituals of comfort that bring a feeling of security. That first cup of warm coffee, a morning walk down a tree lined path, curling up with a good book in a warm comfy throw, the dim lite glow of burning beeswax candles, wrapping up in a thick towel after a chilly dip in the lake or feeling the cool breeze on an evening bike ride after supper. Looking for ways to build more hygge into our days might be just what is needed right now.
Spotted this bee hard at work today on Couchain Lake down Basin Depot Road near the Algonquin Park boundary. Bees pollinate 80% of the worlds plants and are so important for the planet. I’ve been adding more bee friendly flowers to my yard including black eyed Susan’s, daisies, lavender and coneflower. Also trying not to feel like I’m letting my neighbours down as I let my dandelions flourish each spring 🙂.
